Get the fryer oil going. 1/26/11

All kinds of good reports are coming in. One of my friends saw pictures of some really nice walleyes in the 2-5 # range that were caught last weekend. The bad thing is these were caught a hundred yards from where I was fishing, on the other side of the river. We were the coldest spot in the nation those two days so those fellows earned the fish. I don’t often use the hut but I sure did those mornings and hut was good. I have been working my regular job the last few days and unable to make it for the evening bite but my pal Mark has been hitting our spot and making nice catches. Last night he got four fat ones. Any lure with a perch theme has been good and in the last week kastmasters or something with a wide profile and perch colors have excelled, easily out fishing the Rappalas. I can’t wait to continue field testing the new baiting system. The potential of this is frightening and I am working on making it simple to employ in harsh fishing conditions and should be available for you by next season via my website. NYS crappie derby this Saturday which is the annual high point of the season and we look forward to seeing you there! Fish hard, fish often.

REVENGE!!! 1/24/11

Revenge is best served up with a nice stainless steel VMC hook in it. The new baiting method I am perfecting worked perfectly over the weekend and none of the light biting little weasels escaped. The setup needs a little fine tuning to make it simple to use in the harsh ice fishing field conditions but I am all over it and will have it perfected soon. Other than that it has been really cold here in the southern tier of NY and good ice is everywhere. Gearing up for the NYS Crappie Derby this weekend and a good day out with many old friends. A great outing even if the fish don’t cooperate.

1/21/11 River Update

Some reports of fish being caught are trickling in. They should not have annoyed me as much as they did because the new baiting method I schemed up to get the #$@^%* light biting little bas*&%$#s worked to near perfection and was the kiss of death for ones that have been just licking the bait. I have been getting reports that a dead rod using just a plain minnow on a sliding sinker and an in-line walleye attractor has been producing nice catches. Fish hard!!!

A little cooperation from them thar Walleyes

They couldn’t avoid us forever and under the full moon they could no longer resist our offerings and a few were landed. Quite a few bites but few actually tasted steel. Either way almost a limit and a few new attack methods are being prototyped in the ongoing battle with the vermit walleyes. Arctic temperatures are invading the region which will probably insure great ice for a good while. Kastmasters and Rapallas in the perch flavors have been good and I have been working a gold shad rap jigging Rapalla with some success. Fish on and on and on and on …
