1/20/11 Ice Fishing update

Bear here from the frozen tundra of the Susquehanna. Under the full moon we actually did catch some fish last night. Had a fair amount of bites but the weasels were tough to hook. Once again it was that critical time right around last light and into the dark when the bite occurred. I will not take this lying down and a new baiting approach I have been scheming will be going into operation this weekend. Speaking of which the forecast is for Ice Station Zebra type temperatures here in the southern tier of NY and the hut will be going into play. Hut good when temperatures go below zero. That is all for now. FISH ON!!!

Where are them thar walleyes?

Fishing has continued to be slow along the Susquehanna river and I have input coming in from the PA border for a hundred miles north up the Chenango River. These are expert ice fishermen and we are all getting it handed too us by these tasty fish. I did get some here in the last two days but the bites are few and far between and you don,t want to be asleep at the switch. On a high note my ice fishing inventions which I work on daily have reached a level that is ready for presentation to you the discerning fisherman and will be available on the site for this coming season. All the equipment I sell is designed to make you as efficient as possible. Some decent reports have been coming in from Oneida Lake but they have had some heavy snows up there and a machine to get out on the ice has been critical. Other than that I am gearing up for anther week of cold weather and with the moon phase being full this week maybe the f$#!@ walleyes will cooperate a little bit this week. I just want to give them a nice warm place to visit in my frying pan.

River scene not good 1/12/11

Hello river ice fishermen. The ice fishing on the Susquehanna continues to be very slow. In fact it is like a Spielberg Movie, the Dead Zone. That’s all for now but I do continue probing. Good time to be tying flies.

Man in!!!!

This is the second report I have had of someone going through the ice on the river. PLEASE be careful. I have been watching people walking around like they fish there every day and that is not the case. It is an early and unusual ice situation. It is all fun and games till you are in!!!! A good spud bar and or a friend is critical and one of those new inflatable vests isn’t a bad idea either. Ice cleats are needed also and if you have an old pair of corkers with worn studs try replacing them with the studs guys are putting on the tracks of their snowmobiles. They make for a heavy shoe but you can just about climb the side of a building like Spider man.
