Papa Smurf On Vacation

After a long arduous filming of his new movie Papa Smurf wanted to go to Adirondack Retreats instead of Disney Land. Please click on the picture to enlarge it and get a good look at this varmint. That goes for any picture on my blogs, they look so much better enlarged. I just saw on line that his premier is just about tied for box office success with that other summer time blockbuster cowboys and aliens. They may have to use two hands to count all the people that went. Other than this I do not have much to report other than that the catfish are still alluding me and it is really starting to micturate me off!!! I have thrown more stuff at them than I care to think about. I take my son and with four rods out its like the country buffet and still nothing.  I have stuff rotting to the point where every bottle fly in the county has been in my driveway and the neighbors are thinking I have the Amityville Horror house. Oh well and I refuse to give up. Fish hard and often friends.

Susquehanna Sea Trout

Oh I mean carp as most of you know them as. The catfish have been very uncooperative but the carp have been saving the day and keeping the kids and me quite busy. Nothing spurs the little weasels to want to go more than catching fish that just about pull them in the river. I am actually using the carp as training for the upcoming salmon season at Pulaski and how to handle fish that pull like you had hooked a pickup truck. We get some nice ones here with many in the 20# range, great fun. A nice big can of corn and some heavy equipment = happy children with sore arms and true tales to tell their friends. Now I have so many going with us that it looks like Fisherman’s Wharf with all the lines out. Plus I have their captive attention to instill other outdoor thoughts in their poor little game boy riddled minds. Call Of Duty has black listed me for teaching them the Call Of  Hunting and Fishing. Its not easy being the Anti Gamer but we all have our crosses to bear and I love mine. I hope you all will become disciples in helping to fight the evil X-Box. I used to have a full head of hair, see what a wife and kids will do to you. I told them that before I had them I was a fox with a big bushy tail. Now I have turned into a river rat. I AM LOVING IT . GOD HAS BLESSED AMERICA and I say thank you everyday.

PAPA BEAR LOVES KIDS!!!!

Especially with salt, pepper and hot sauce!!! I bring my kids their friends and cousins up every year  for and August trip and they have the time of their lives. NO game boy or I-paweds and they don’t even think about them. I have an archery range set up with old bows and arrows I scavenged. I have a BB and pellet gun range and they go through on average 12,000 BBs in 3-4 days. I just about have to have a bucket of water on hand to keep the barrels cool. If their not doing that then they are either eating or tormenting the minnows in the river. It looks like a pack of Otters heading upstream. It is just the perfect way to give our high tech modern children a crash course in nature and respect for it. I know that most of us are very busy in our lives but make time for the kids and show them a little bit of what us old timers(yikes) took for granted when we were growing up. Take lots of pictures and teach them right. Life is finite, good health a blessing, do not put a trip anywhere with them off. A trip like this to the Adirondacks can be a very reasonably priced deal and thanks to our State there are a lot of great camping areas all over. August is a great time up here with it being cooler up in the mountains and most of the blood thirsty bugs have had their day in the sun. The fishing tends to be a little slower and you will relax as you interact with the kids before the little weasels start getting ready for school. I love to start a family trip up here with a stop at Old Forge Water Safari. Nothing takes the excess energy out of them like a good water boarding. LOL!!! From there take them to their campsite for a good feeding and its lights out and parents relaxing around the fire with some ice cold beverages, Perfect start to a trip.

I thought the dog days were in August????

The dog is about the only one loving the weather lately. Its been hotter than my ex-wife after a couple of margaritas. Trout fishing has come to a halt and even the river fishing in the Susquehanna is questionable at best. I went small mouth fishing last night and the river water was 87 degrees. Now I have an idea of how a lobster feels as he is lowered in. The carp fishing has been outstanding however and the kids think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread.  So not all is lost and I just love watching them battle 20# carp. This weather has forced me into the shop and I have to admit I have been getting a lot accomplished in preparation for the upcoming fall fishing and I constructed several of my custom tree stands and if the weather gets cool in the morning I will get them in place early in the morning. I only have 4o some stands out as it is so I better get some more in. Actually my son is now 12 and here in NY they just lowered the bow hunting  age to 12 his tail is wagging to go. I LOVE IT!!!!! The new stands are going to be put in places that I don’t hunt but are guaranteed shot opportunities. Another thing I have been preparing is my minnow holding operation now that we can once again pick our own minnows and not have to buy one that has a USDA certified stamp on his ass. This law was like 6 burrs under my saddle. Once again the people who had nothing to do with the problem were the ones that were penalized and yet the ones whom are causing the problem are allowed to continue on as usual. Why aren’t the ships bringing in their bilge water having to sterilize it before they dump it in the Great Lakes???? Oh yeah that’s right some company that sent our jobs offshore wouldn’t make his 10,000% profit. I better stop now before I have to go drink a 12 pack of sedatives. FISH ON AND OFTEN FRIENDS!!!
