A FEW OF OUR LOCAL RIVER MONSTERS

A few of these show unusual markings that forever make them a little extra special. Note the tiger stripe markings on this first one, he must have been living under a wrought iron fence. The second one must have suffered some severe facial trauma when it was young and ended up with a door stop for a lower jaw and an upper jaw that any witch would be proud to have for a nose. A testament to the toughness and adaptability of these WILD trout.old snub nose 001 We may just have the best trout fishing in New York and here is some evidence.jims camp 20(2) 001mothers say brown 1 001dump hole 21 001crystal clear water 001back with a 21 001001_1toms 22 incher 07 001skip 19 001solid 17 001right in front of camp 001ricks 22 2 001nice one 001got him back at 23(2) 001chris 20slide hole 001DSCF3870DSCF4265DSCF0854002nice male 001released 21 001DSCF9042DSCF9474OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARFG 10.13.07 (3)pb0-fly-hatches-adirondackstom beavertail4 001 All these fish were caught and released.

A SUPER SUMMER IN THE ADIRONDACKS

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHi trout fishing fans, Papa Bear reporting in from the mountains. Just got in from a month up at Fort Minnow, my outpost here in the northern ADKs. After a super late and intense winter things went quite dry for awhile. All that changed after Memorial day and regular good rains things went crazy. Fantastic water levels were the results and these levels are maintaining. In fact we are looking at great fishing well into August at this point. Here are a smattering of the results of this first half of the season. This has been a big fish season with very few fish under 15 inches being caught and released. The weather for the most part has been ideal and the biting bugs very manageable. We have experienced an unusually high number of chamber of commerce days and I have been getting spoiled. Super truck has been retired and as you can see its still not an easy life for it and she loves it. Sorry I don’t have more fish pics but I seem to spend more time at camp working than fishing these days. Gourmet meals are a big part of the package up here and I am good at creating them. Okay that is my half time report, GO FISHING NOW!!!!

Current Conditions: Perfect

20″ Wild Brown Trout caught on a heavily weighted olive/black stonefly pattern.

On and off rain for the past 2 weeks has kept the river in absolutely perfect condition – particularly the stretches right around camp. Whether you’re packing a spin reel or fly rod, the river condition is absolutely perfect to catch large wild brown trout.  As the rains of puffed up the river, trout are on patrol taking Papa Bear’s famous minnow rig.  As the water levels drop, large nymphs and streamers have taken trout between 17-23″ on heavy fluorocarbon tippets. Ausable Ugly’s and Stonefly patterns are working well.  A monster brown estimated to be 26″ has been hooked twice in the past week, but has not been brought to net.  Jonah awaits your Adirondack Retreat.  Are you up for the challenge?

He’ll be waiting for you!

Do not email – call the property steward Wayne Richardson, aka Papa Bear at 607-785-8215 to book your introductory trip today.
